Student Story – Sandy Tito
Meet Sandy Tito! You might recognise Sandy from the Gulgong Dispensary - did you know she is in training to become a qualified pharmacist? Sandy was the first student to register with CUC Mudgee Region in 2024, and she has just handed in her Honours Thesis!
Qualification:
Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) at University of New England.
Why did you choose your degree and what do you enjoy the most about it?
I needed something that I could use anywhere, but I didn’t want my previous degree (Bachelor of Medical Science) to go to waste. After moving back to this area, Pharmacy was a good fit to help my community and do something that I love. Studying is the only time when I’m just me – I’m not the mum; I’m not the wife. People don’t know me as anything other than what I am in that moment. This is what I’m here for and this is what I do.
How important is having the CUC in your local town to you and why?
Having young kids and living in a rural area makes it very difficult to find a quiet space with no distractions where you can really immerse yourself into your studies. A lot of the facilities are so useful, like having a space available for exams. It also gives me a community of people who understand the trials along the way.
Where are your studies taking you?
I just want to be able to expand the opportunities available to our community. That community is a really big thing for me because I grew up with it. Growing up here, I received so much care. Being able to give a little of that back is really important to me. I’m hoping to get more qualifications under my belt to be able to offer more to the community in the pharmacy space.
