Student Story – Tommy Skone
Meet local student Tommy Skone! Tommy is a carpenter on heritage buildings. But on his days off, Tommy is taking on something totally different – he has just started studying Psychology.
Qualification:
Undergraduate Certificate in Psychology at Curtin University.
What made you choose to study now?
Behavioural science has always been a big interest for me – how the brain works, how we perceive the world, how we communicate with others, how the brain adapts to situations. I enjoy learning new things, and it’s something I’ve wanted to study for a long time. Then I had a bike accident and took some time off from my job as a carpenter. It gave me a great opportunity to get into the groove of study without the demands of work. It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
How has the CUC been helpful in your studies?
It’s unreal. I couldn’t have done it without it. It’s really nice to have a good regular place to come and study. It’s just super easy – no stress. The computers are great, the chairs are great. It’s just the best.
What do you find most challenging about study?
The most difficult would be the scientific terminology, which is hard to wrap your head around. Studying now that I’m back at work is tricky. I just have to be mindful of when to finish work on time and plan well in advance – just being proactive.
